  • February Fun-Dip

Lorrrddt. I haven't changed my calendar since January 21st. I don't know why I started with that but now you know, as I'm writing this I'm surprised that it's actually february - again. If you remember my message in the december dispatch blog post, I mentioned starting the comic over - again. Now I know what you're thinking, but hold on a second, hear me out...! I know you all are tired of hearing me say the same thing every 6 months - starting over, starting over, starting over. You never get past episode 3! Trust me, this hurts me more than it hurts you. I know a lot of artists out there uploading their comics start with some shit looking art but as their story progresses, you get to watch it change and develop over time, It's like growing up with the artist, watching how their style changes and get's better, more like them, in a sense. NOT HERE! I hate my old art so much I STRIP it away from ALL EYES! NO ONE CAN SEE THE DEVILS VOMIT ahem. anyway. Let me show you an example of how the first chapter has changed over the last 6 years: These first two pages are from the first rendition of this comic in 2020. there was so much blank space on the page, it was a CRY for PAGE COUNT. But also I thought the bigger the page the higher the resolution and the more detail I could add. BAD IDEA. Nice idea, bad execution no, what? This, the same scene, just a little different, same characters, this was 2023 - instead of less detail, I went with MORE . Bigger page, bigger panels, BIG BERLYN ART- which took waaay too long, I worked on this version of the graphic novel for over a year, it made me hate it honestly. For the detail it looks great, for graphic novel production? You need a team girl... and finally, here we are at 2026. both of these pages completed in two days, much, much simpler, easier to navigate and clearer to see. The characters are better looking (not as far as looks, but the style and colorization is much better) Even having a more organized format and layout helps. WTF was I doing before and why didn't you stop me?! muuuuuuuch better. anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk, I'm going to go now.

  • Embracing Change: Autumn Reflections & Big Announcements

The Turning of Seasons: Growth, Grit, and Gratitude As the shadows lengthen and the air sharpens, we find ourselves at a crossroads—both in the frostbitten corridors of The Known World and within our own creative journey. The past two months have been a study in transformation: sometimes messy, sometimes magical, always honest. If you’ve missed hearing from us, know that we’ve missed you too. Here’s everything we’ve been quietly building behind the scenes. Website Revamp: Smoother, Sleeker, and More Immersive We’re thrilled to unveil a more streamlined website experience at empireofice.com ! Our new homepage is designed for easier navigation, letting you dive into the heart of the Empire with fewer clicks and more clarity. The episode gallery is now clearer than ever—episodes are easy to browse, and, by popular demand, we’ve added a censorship switch so members can toggle content filters on or off as they read. Is it perfect? Not yet. We’re still ironing out a few quirks with episode and page navigation, but the comics are running smoothly overall, and your feedback is always welcome. A Legend Returns: ‘Lanloden Story’ Rises Again In perhaps our most exciting news—‘Lanloden Story’ is back! Once a Webtoons favorite with over 80k subscribers and over 1 Million Views, this beloved comic now lives exclusively on Empireofice.com , with all 50 original episodes (and more on the way). If you’re new to our world, this is the perfect gateway; if you’re a returning fan, welcome home. Expanding the Universe: New Comics, New Adventures The Known World is growing. Alongside ‘Empire of Ice’ and ‘Lanloden Story,’ we’re introducing two new comics: ‘King of The Rock’ ‘Zenevica’ Both are set in the same universe, offering fresh perspectives, new characters, and deeper lore. Our vision is to give you more ways to lose yourself in the intrigue, passion, and mystery of our world. Hidden Minstrels’ Market: From Digital to Reality Behind the scenes, we’re laying the groundwork for something truly special: the Hidden Minstrels’ Market is on track to become a real, brick-and-mortar location in 2026. Imagine stepping into a space filled with sensual, ethically sourced treasures, artisan crafts, and the magic of The Known World—no longer just a fantasy. Building a Community: Interactive Features & Name Generators We’re keeping sign-up and log-in forms in their default state for now, but big changes are brewing. Soon, you’ll be able to customize your profile with class, race, guardian star, and more—making the Empire’s community as dynamic and diverse as its storylines. To help you immerse yourself, we’ve also launched two name generator apps. Whether you’re crafting a new persona or just playing, these tools are here to help you find your place in the Known World. Art & Evolution: The Perpetual Work-in-Progress Art is a living thing. With every new page, my skills shift and grow. Sometimes, I look back and see flaws or places where the art could better serve the story—so I revise, refine, and, yes, occasionally consider starting over (for the fourth time!). Thank you for your patience as I chase perfection, even if it means a little chaos along the way. We want the visuals to do justice to the novel’s depth and complexity. Life Beyond the Page: Birthdays, Breaks, and Building Dreams On a personal note, autumn and winter bring a flurry of birthdays in our circle, so things may be a bit sporadic as we celebrate, recharge, and focus on building our physical location. Creativity doesn’t always follow a schedule, but we promise to keep you in the loop. Looking Ahead: What to Expect Thank You for Your Patience and Passion If you’re still reading, you’re the reason we do this. Thank you for walking with us through every season of change, every creative detour, and every new beginning. The Empire is stronger—and infinitely more magical—with you in it. Stay curious. Stay wild. Fuck ICE.

  • In the ice, out the ice and back in the ice again and then out...It's September

It's September 1st. Did you read my last blog, funny right - how people freak out? haa. I've been making comics for decades, there's literally nothing else I know how to do, why would I quit? what? July and August were busy months for LFP. If you visit often you'll notice (if you're on a mobile device) that it's much easier to navigate. We've edited 99% of the site for mobile accessibility. In no way is this an app, which we hope to have available in the future, but if you visit the site on a mobile device, like a phone or a tablet, you won't have the problem of words and images being cut off the screen Have you seen the Hidden Minstrels' Market?? <3 It's our boutique, a boudoir...a velvety place full of velvety, long, hard, strappy, wet items that'll make your skin tingle and your hard on throb....yeah, really. The big v0.2.9 Not yet v1 but getting closer. I can barely remember what the site looked like in 2024. But we've fixed a lot of issues, made a lot of accessibility changes. Like episode navigation. Still having a few issues with it, like page retention and bookmarking, but the ability to read and use the censorship button is a real victory. the coding makes me want to pull my hair out... stay tuned okay?

  • Is it still July? Or am I Quitting?

I'm tired. I'm more than tired. I'm exhausted. I started this artistic path in 2003. I've written books. I've published comics. I went to college (and dropped out - twice). You probably already read my sob story - or maybe not, no one reads these lmao. Whenever I open my art software or pull the website up, my energy drops, my motivation is basically nothing and all I can see is a dark tunnel with NO light at the end, not even at the beginning. What is that, y'know? I don't like looking at the characters, I don't like reading the plots over and over again.. I created a webtoons comic called "Lanloden Story" that was widely popular. But I couldn't afford to do it anymore and after a 2 month hiatus, most of that steam had gone. And that wasn't even my passion project, at the time. Compliments like "That's great!" or "your art is amazing!" are more comments that just make me tired or shrug. So it's great...but not great or amazing enough to afford a happy meal. Going this long, for this many years without any real validation is wearing me out and I don't know if I want to keep picking up the pen. yeah in your dreams maybe...

  • It's June and you SHOULD be proud

But are you? I was listening to my local news and there was a therapist on as a guest speaker to help people with feelings of anxiety; that instead of looking ahead at what needs to be done, look back at all of your accomplishments up to this point already and relish in them. It's nothing that I needed to hear from a therapist per se, but it was a coincidental reminder; it came at the right time as I was beginning to feel overwhelmed with all the work that I need to complete - and that dreaded imaginary timer. So instead of, "OMG, i'm thirty and I'm drawing comic books? how LAME am I?", I'll remind myself that there are 60-70 year old men writing Romantasy...and making bank. I'll start with what I've done so far - if my memory serves me correctly, I'll start from the earliest one. ahem My fucking accomplishments Was recognized in the local paper for reading books in the library. won a mural contest to decorate my local middle school wall. Recognized in the Fruita Newspaper and commissioned to write a weekly youth column. Won a solo-violinist contest in middle school won east-coast middle school orchestra contest Volunteered for a summer at a local farm and history museum Completed an Anatomy & Biology college course as a senior Graduated highschool with honors Tutored elementary school children in reading and language arts Won a comic book contest for my university Submitted tutorials for teachers to use for their students in my university. Started the creation of Lanloden Story that generated over 400k readers on webtoons. Co-Founded an online writing community that still runs today with a community over 10k members. Copywrote and registered as an LLC and became an official CEO of my business. Coded my first simple app (name generator). I like these. when I look at them, they do make me proud. They also make me feel better about taking Sunday off... Empire of Ice will have an update monday, stay tuned!

  • May is a month

And the guilt begins to replace itself with frustration, but also acceptance. I can't strap myself to my chair and draw non-stop and I need to stop believing that I can. Sure, I can go for an hour or two - MAYBE - without any interruptions, (bodily functions count as interruptions) like animals, children and dishes. I'm beginning to think I need to draw first, see how long it takes and then go from there, giving myself a better chance to get into a comfortable routine - instead of stressing about a deadline that I MADE. then hopefully at the end of this I still have the desire for sex. March was so disruptive to my routine that my projected timelines were all off by weeks. I accepted a job that I wasn't compensated for, and plans that I made that were to help, ended up ticking off a good few points on my credit. #moneymourning You know we have to get through the grievances before we can get to the good stuff, right? Like the site - we've been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes updates and today we updated to a new version with new features - like the snow, like it? Earlier this year I made a promise to myself to never start over again, just continue and build. If you ask anyone, I love starting over from scratch - I did it here twice and with the comic probably four times. Getting through the first two chapters were getting harder to do because I was tired of drawing the same thing over and over again. The silver lining being that my skills have gotten better, but the dark side being it was hard to compare my old work from the new work. You may notice some inconsistencies within the comic - like the color of a pillow, the design of someone's shoes...this is mostly because I have a hard time making up my mind. This would be one of the reasons I would start completely over, but not anymore. Get ready for MORE DRAMA, MORE SEX, MORE ACTION I could address HMM, but I'm not - just go see for yourself.

  • No April Fools' Here

I was going on vaycay I cancelled my trip to the East Coast today. Am I disappointed? Yes. Am I relieved? Yes. My mix of emotions are all culminating to one answer though and I appreciate the hard work of 'being in the moment'; and that answer is focusing on the mental health of myself and my not-so-mini me. Instead of stressing over non-existent resources and creating anxiety out of thin air, I'm taking the wheel. I'm not asking for help - I'm making my glow up happen. Part of that is challenging myself to post a blog once a month...have I done that? I don't remember march.... I'm a kid in a big big world The Known World - it's been the place of my dreams for decades. The birthplace of my alternate reality. The universe in where I am safe. It's where I spent countless hours as a child, creating, believing. Staring at the stars and knowing that somewhere, sometime my world would be a reality. You aren't here for whining!!! Besides the daily life of a thirty-something-year-old woman, we're about the SITE THE SITE THE SITE. COME ONE COME ALL! The Known World is accepting refugees from all over, providing the safe haven you've always desired. A place to shed your identity and step into a world of wonders and possibilities. Come and witness the beginning as the gods thread reality before your very eyes... I adopted a pig. Did I say that? Excuse this random rant. But the release dates are still expected to be the same. I'm drawing as you read this...

  • Fahr'Rhum and Solringen: Exploring cultural cycles of renewal

Written By Mia Gaines-Alt In the Known World of Empire of Ice, the cycles of nature and celestial phenomena hold deep cultural and spiritual significance. Much like the ancient Norse traditions that inspired the song 'Solringen' by Wardruna, the Vulsrian people have their own celebration of light and renewal. This blog explores the meaning of 'Solringen' and its cultural parallels to Fahr'Rhum, a springtime festival in Vulsria. The Norse Inspiration Behind "Solringen": Einar Selvik, lead singer of Wardruna, performing "Solringen: First Flight of the White Raven" on stage. The scene captures his powerful vocals and connection to Norse traditions, set against an atmospheric backdrop that evokes the themes of renewal, nature, and ancient spirituality. "Solringen," meaning "The Sun Ring" in Norwegian, is a hauntingly beautiful song by Wardruna that captures the essence of the sun's cyclical journey and its connection to life, hope, and renewal. Rooted in Norse tradition, the song evokes a deep reverence for nature and the eternal cycles that govern existence. The sun's ring symbolizes not only the physical path of the sun but also the spiritual and emotional renewal that comes with its return after the dark winter months. At the start of Wardruna's official video of "Solringen," Einar Selvik introduces the song with a fascinating piece of Norse tradition: "In earlier tradition, the women of the household on a farm had the task of going out into the fields around midsummer and waking up the elves dwelling there with rhymes and songs to encourage them to ensure growth and good crops." This practice reflects the deep connection between people and the unseen forces of nature in ancient Nordic beliefs. The act of "waking the elves" was a symbolic gesture, blending gratitude, respect, and hope for a bountiful harvest. It highlights the belief that humanity and the natural world are intertwined, with the spiritual realm playing a vital role in ensuring survival and prosperity. Parallels in the Vulsrian World: While the Norse tradition tied this ritual to midsummer, the Vulsrians honor a similar tradition known as "Fahr'Rhum", a springtime festival that honors the return of warmth and fertility to the land. It is a time when the harsh Vulsrian winters give way to renewal, and the people gather to plant seeds—both literal and metaphorical—for the year ahead. The festival is marked by rituals that celebrate the sun's journey across the sky, the balance of light and dark, and the interconnectedness of life. Just as the Norse women sang to the elves, the Vulsrian people honor their gods and the spirits of the land through offerings, songs, and sacred rituals to ensure a fruitful year ahead. In Vulsria, the Glacier Moss and Frostwillow branches used during the festival are believed to carry the essence of the gods' blessings, much like the elves in the Norse tradition were thought to influence growth and fertility. The Dance of Light around the circular bonfire mirrors the act of invoking unseen forces to awaken the land and prepare it for abundance. Symbolism of the Sun Ring in Vulsria: Much like the Norse reverence for the sun's cycle, the Vulsrian people view the sun as a divine force, represented by the golden ring of light that encircles the heavens. This "sun ring" is a reminder of the eternal cycles of life and the promise of renewal. The festival's rituals often include the lighting of circular bonfires, the crafting of golden wreaths, and the sharing of circular bread known as "Solbrot", symbolizing the unity and continuity of life. Similar Traditions and Rituals: Morning Offerings: At dawn, offerings of flowers, seeds, and golden-hued fruits are made to the gods, particularly Xidon, the god of creation, and Karamina, the goddess of courage and renewal. This mirrors the Norse tradition of honoring the sun and nature's cycles through symbolic acts of gratitude. The Dance of Light: Communities gather to perform a circular dance around a central fire, representing the sun's path and the unity of the people. This echoes Norse rituals that celebrate the sun's return with music, dance, and communal gatherings. Planting of Intentions: Participants plant seeds in sacred soil, accompanied by prayers and blessings for growth, abundance, and harmony. This act symbolizes the planting of hopes and dreams, much like the Norse practice of setting intentions during seasonal transitions. A Shared Universal Truth: Both traditions—Norse and Vulsrian—emphasize the importance of harmony with nature and the cycles of life. They remind us that renewal and growth are not solitary acts but collaborative efforts between humanity, the earth, and the spiritual forces that guide us. This connection is beautifully encapsulated in Wardruna's "Solringen," where the haunting melodies and lyrics evoke the timeless bond between people and the natural world. The parallels between the Norse traditions and the Vulsrian Fahr'Rhum Planting Feast highlight a universal truth: humanity's deep connection to the cycles of nature and the sun's life-giving power. Just as "Solringen" by Wardruna captures the essence of these cycles, the Vulsrian festival invites participants to reflect on their place within the natural world and the eternal promise of light after darkness. Why "Solringen" Resonates Across Cultures: For fans of Empire of Ice who may not be familiar with Wardruna or Norse traditions, "Solringen" serves as a bridge between the real-world inspiration and the fictional world of Vulsria. Its haunting melodies and evocative lyrics transport listeners to a time when humanity's connection to nature was sacred and unbroken. By incorporating these themes into the Vulsrian lore, we deepen the immersive experience for our readers and create a shared space where history, music, and fiction intertwine. Conclusion: By exploring 'Fahr'Rhum,' we invite readers to immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of Empire of Ice and reflect on the cultural parallels between 'Solringen' and Fahr'Rhum as celebrations of renewal and connection. Whether through music, storytelling, or personal reflection, let us all take a moment to honor the sun's journey and the promise of renewal it brings. Just as the sun returns to warm the earth, may we find light and hope in our own cycles of growth and transformation.
